Independent Challenger Ends Congressional Campaign
Our campaign needed to turn in 1,569 valid signatures from registered voters in the district by August 1st to earn a place on the November ballot and we came up short. I am disappointed that our best effort came up short, but I am not sorry that we tried.
I believe that we all share a responsibility to participate in our own governance in whatever way we are best able. I believed I could do a better job if elected than the other candidates seeking to represent our district at the time, so I stepped up.
It has been my great privilege for these many months to talk with our neighbors, on front porches, in living rooms, at kitchen tables, and in coffee shops.
It seems to me the bar many folks set for candidates is that they just want to be represented by someone who they believe will work for their best interests, and not necessarily to which party a candidate belongs. It is my hope that our independent campaign will inspire others in our communities who would make excellent leaders if elected, but who choose not to run because they calculate they’d never win in either of the two major party’s closed primary elections, which often draw the party’s most partisan members.
Until next time.
